Newcastle clothing industry responds to Sactwu

Newcastle clothing companies still wait for a response from Sactwu.
A march of 3,000 clothing workers organised by the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) brought the town of Newcastle to a halt . The workers, who were protesting against poverty wages and exploitation, handed memoranda to the Newcastle Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Bargaining Council for the Clothing Manufacturing Industry.

BRAVO NEWCASTLE - it's about time the industry stands up & highlights the plight of the industry.

The union for too long has blinded the general public with their rhetoric & yet jobs are shed time & time again.

What has the union done to CREATE jobs in the past decade or. Investing in a white elephant such as Seardel & then moving production to Lesotho does not create jobs in the RSA.

Only because of agreements made by parties protecting their own interests does the union have a foot hold in the non-metro areas of the Republic. If not for that they, under the current economic climate, would be finding it hard pressed to maintain their membership base.

Using thuggery & intimidation may have worked in the past to force the unions message across - having lackeys in Govt. have helped accelerate the rot that we now see coming to the surface like a boil.

May sanity prevail to bring this matter to a successful outcome for all sides will surely take people of conviction that want what is best for all not for the few.
